Session 2 – Do OLEDs and Oxide TFTs Change the Display Market Outlook?
OLEDs deliver significant improvements in contrast ratio, black levels, response times, form factor and 3D performance, but have suffered from significantly higher manufacturing costs due to the need for a LTPS backplane which is also marked by limitations in manufacturing capacity. With improvements in oxide TFT stability, OLEDs would be able to leverage the lower cost and abundant a-Si capacity, resulting in higher prices and lower costs for display manufacturers. What is timing for oxide TFT-based OLEDs and how far along are manufacturers in overcoming other challenges associated with scaling OLEDs to larger substrates? This session will include presentations as well as a panel session.
