Display Week's Best in Show and Display Industry Awards Lunch is on Wednesday June 3, 2015 in room LL21ABCD, This year's speaker is popular Stanford University Professor Brian Wandell, whose speech will be Surprising Stories about the Living Human Brain.

 Brian Wandell		 ABSTRACT: Magnetic resonance imaging makes it possible to measure activity and structure in the living human brain at millimeter scale. I will tell a few stories about the development of MRI technology for measuring brain systems (neuroimaging). Then I will describe some adventures measuring the signals and organization in the visual parts of the human brain. My focus will be on some of surprises from the last 25 years, involving remarkable patients, experiments in sight restoration, and how children learn to rapidly and efficiently see words.

BIO: Brian A. Wandell is the first Isaac and Madeline Stein Family Professor at Stanford University. He joined the psychology faculty in 1979 and is a member, by courtesy, of the electrical engineering and ophthalmology departments. Wandell is the founding director of the Stanford Center for Cognitive and Neurobiological Imaging and the deputy director of the Stanford Neurosciences Institute. Wandell’s work in visual neuroscience uses functional, structural and quantitative MRI along with behavior testing and computational modeling to understand the action of the visual portions of the brain. His research centers on vision science, spanning topics from visual disorders and reading development in children, to digital imaging devices and algorithms for both magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and digital imaging. He is the author of the vision science textbook Foundations of Vision.

In 1987, Wandell won the Troland Research Award from the National Academy of Sciences for his work in color vision. He was made a fellow of the Optical Society of America in 1997. Wandell was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2003. In 2007, he was named Electronic Imaging Scientist of the Year by the IS&T/SPIE, and he was awarded the Tillyer Award from the Optical Society of America in 2008. He was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2011, and he received the Oberdorfer Award in Low Vision from the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology in 2012. 

Best in Show Awards


The annual Best in Show and Display Industry Awards Luncheon will take place at noon on Wednesday, June 3. Both awards are peer-reviewed, such that the luncheon is well-attended by captains of industry for high-level networking and recognition of the best in the industry over the last year.

  
The Best in Show awards are intended to honor the most significant advances in display technology and systems, products, prototypes, and manufacturing processes presented by exhibitors during Display Week. This competition will be open to all exhibitors on the show floor during Display Week 2015. Prizes will be awarded in the three categories of small, medium, and large exhibits. This will allow exhibitors of all sizes to compete for the prizes. Self-nominations are encouraged. The criteria for judgement are:

  1. Timeliness and significance to the display industry of the products, prototypes, processes, and technologies exhibited
  2. Creative use of audio, visual, or other effects to present and highlight the new material

Display Industry Awards

 Each year, SID awards gold and silver Display of the Year Awards in three categories: Display of the Year, Display Application of the Year, and Display Component of the Year. These apply to products on sale within the previous calendar year, industry-wide whether they are being shown at Display Week or not. Self-nominations are encouraged!


Award winners will have the opportunity to have their Display Week show floor interview videos by SID's PR firm MCA included on the SID YouTube channel, as well as displayweek.org!
