SID Market Focus Conference:
High Performance Displays
Vancouver Convention Centre, Thursday May 23, 2013

A new topic for the Market Focus Conference Series, the High Performance Displays Conference will focus on the "visual interface" -- the performance characteristics of displays that enable differentiable improvements for the user's visual experience.  This session will put an emphasis on the technologies and content necessary to promote improved performance and enable delegates to consider various performance trade-offs related to the future of vision-based devices.  Various display technologies inherently have differing advantages and disadvantages when it comes to display performance, so this conference will concentrate on opportunities for both display makers and device manufacturers to truly differentiate their product offerings.  Rather than focusing on what emerging technologies will drive the market, this event will focus on the capabilities of the human visual system to drive technological innovation.  Special emphasis will be placed on high resolution and deep color implementations that are coming to market.
8:30 AM Greeting:
Brian Berkeley, President, SID
8:35 AM Introduction: Mark Fihn, Senior Principal Analyst, Displays, IHS
8:40 AM High Performance Displays Industry Analysis
This session will feature market research and analytical commentary about the ways in which display performance can enable product differentiation.

1:40 PM Resolution Revolution
One of the performance parameters that is surging in virtually all applications is resolution. This session will consider some of the technologies that are further driving resolution. The session also attempts to answer the question of how much resolution is truly needed to mimic the capabilities of the human visual system.

Jason Leigh, Director, Electronic Visualization Laboratory, University of Illinois at Chicago
Maareten Tobias, CEO, Dimenco
Eric Li, President and CEO, Silicon Core Technology
Moderator: Norman Bardsley, Bardsley Consulting
3:20 PM Focus on Color
Color is a topic that is seeing considerable discussion in the market and in product spec sheets. This session will evaluate recent trends in color science as they apply to displays and will suggest some ways to further improve color performance.

Michael James, President/CEO, Portrait Display
Jeff Yurek, Product Marketing Manager, Nanosys
Nigel Waites, XYZ Color
4:40 PM Opportunities for Differentiation
In addition to resolution and color, there are numerous other display performance specifications that offer opportunities to differentiate products. This session will consider a few of those differentiators, with a focus on enhancing the human visual response.

Seth Coe-Sullivan, Founder and CTO, QD Vision
